Aadhaar has become a mandatory document for all the Indian citizens. Centre has made the 12-digit unique identity number compulsory for all services including opening a new bank account and getting a new SIM card. The government has also made Aadhaar mandatory to avail the benefits of all the government schemes.
Recently, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) now announced to introduce a blue colour ‘Baal Aadhaar’ for children below five years of age. “A child below 5 years of age gets a blue in coloured Aadhaar known as Baal Aadhaar. When the child becomes 5 yr old, a mandatory biometric update is required,” UIDAI tweeted. The tweet contained an attachment showing infographics of the newly introduced blue colour ‘Baal Aadhaar’.

UIDAI has also tweeted that when the child crosses five years of age, a mandatory biometric update is required and this update is free. One can use the child’s school ID for his or her Aadhaar enrolment. Since kids do not have fingerprints, Baal Aadhaar won’t have biometric data and they will be temporary cards. Only a photograph will be sufficient for the enrollment.
The child’s Aadhaar will be linked to his or her parent’s UID. A mandatory biometric verification is required when the child turns five. At the age of 15, the process of iris scanning, facial photographs and biometrics of 10 fingers should be updated. If the child is above five years, the mandatory documents like birth certificate, school’s identity card should be submitted and the enrollment form should be filled.
Remember to update biometric Aadhaar data of your child at the age of 5 years and then again at the age of 15 years. This mandatory biometric update for children is FREE. #AadhaarForMyChild pic.twitter.com/XyQTMyYf2F
