Safety Now Just A Click Away For Passengers As Uber Partners With Delhi Police

The integration will help the Delhi Police to retrieve real-time locations of drivers and riders.

In a step to enhance the safety of commuters in Delhi, Taxi-hailing app Uber has partnered with Delhi Police to integrate Uber with the Himmat app, which will enable passengers to share their ride details with the police.

The integration will help the Delhi Police to retrieve real-time locations of drivers and riders. In case of an emergency, the passenger can press the emergency button on the app. If the passenger consents to sharing their live location with the Delhi Police, the police can help assign the nearest police station to provide assistance.

"This new integration with enhanced location services and travel information will help save lives. We welcome the use of technology that enables Delhi Police to react more quickly and efficiently during an emergency. With conscious efforts like QR Card distribution among driver-partners, we are happy that private partners like Uber are working with us directly in making Delhi safer for all our residents and visitors," said Amulya Patnaik, Commissioner of Police, Delhi Police.

Uber and Delhi Police have also distributed over 1,000 Himmat QR Verification Cards to driver-partners. When a rider scans the QR code, they can access driver partner's details in the Himmat app and directly report their journey to the Delhi Police.

Uber is also planning to integrate the emergency number 112 to the Uber app.

How It Works

1. In case of an emergency, riders/drivers can access the emergency feature in the safety toolkit to talk to Police.

2. A safety expert from the Uber Safety Response Team will immediately call the user and inquire if they want to share real-time location link and other details with the Delhi Police Control Room.

3. If the user confirms, Uber will share details like their name, contact number, emergency contact number, car details, and driver details, along with a live link of the current GPS location of the driver.
