A shocking revelation was made by Bharatlal Meena, CID DIG at a press conference after an investigating team arrested eight persons involved in the racket of trafficking newborn babies.
The incident occurred in a nursing home in Bhaduria, Maslandapur in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. An investigating team conducted a raid and found three newborn babies in biscuit boxes.
Immediately after birth, the newborns were packed into cardboard biscuit boxes and were sent to a local NGO. From there they were transported to different parts of the country and sometimes outside India for sale. The parents were unaware of this process. They were informed that their child was stillborn.
The price of the infants was decided according to their skin colour. A fair skinned girl would cost Rs 1,60,000, and a dusky baby girl would fetch them Rs 70,000. A fair baby boy would cost them Rs 2,20,000 and a dark baby boy would cost Rs 10,000.
So far, 25 to 30 new born babies have been sold from the nursing home to other states and countries.
The main accused are the owner of the nursing home Satyajit Sinha and Prabhat Sarkar, while others were Asaduzzaman, Utpala Byapari, Najma Bibi, Jhantu, Barbul Baidya and Amirul Biswas. They have been arrested and booked under Section 120(B) and Section 34.
