Malls, Movie Theatres, Shops Will Remain Open 24x7, Government Clears New Act

The Cabinet on Wednesday gave its assent to the Shop and Establishment Act, according to which shops, shopping malls, movie theatres, restaurants, banks and similar businesses can remain open 24×7.

The act also mandates compulsory cab services for women and other facilities for women who work during the night, as reported by Scroll.

Presently, only larger manufacturing units and service sector firms are allowed to operate 24×7. The law covers employing 10 or more workers and provide them freedom to operate 365 days and they can decide the timing to open and close.

This new act will be efficient in generating further employment as shops and establishments will have freedom to operate for long hours all the year round.

This is designed to bring in uniformity in legislative provisions, making it easier for all the states to adopt it and ensure uniform working conditions across the country.

This new act can be a game changer for the country. Not only it will increase the employment, but also, people will be able to access to several facilities 24×7.
