Kerala: Woman Takes To Facebook Live To Accuse Her Husband Of Trying To Kill Her Over Refusal To Pay Dowry

Dilna Alphonsa, a 29-year-old woman from Kerala had gone live on Facebook seeking help, saying that her husband was threatening to kill her and has been harassing her for dowry and has even physically beaten her, the News Minute reported.

The Vaikom Police has registered a case against her husband, Abhijith Balan, for harassment in the name of dowry under section 498A.

What the video shows

The couple had got married in 2014 and had registered their marriage at the Kozhikode Corporation. Dilna, who was a Christian, had converted to Hinduism.

Theirs was a love marriage and Dilna, at that point of time, was told that Abhijit was an assistant sales manager with a monthly salary of Rs 18,000. However, now, the husband and his family is claiming that she does not meet the standards of the family – they have also demanded dowry from her.

Balan wanted her to leave the house or had threatened to kill her.

Her husband is the General Manager of the resort from which she did the video. They have been living there for almost three years and there have been some problems between them. On the fateful day, Balan allegedly strangled Dilna with the intention of killing her. She suffered brutal physical assault at the hands of her husband, who now wishes to marry another woman, and her father-in-law, who allegedly has massive political influence.

Towards the end of the video, Dilna hears knocks at the door and ends the video saying that she is afraid that it is her husband who is at the door and is going to kill her.

The Vaikom police reached the resort in a few hours and freed the woman, before admitting her to the Taluk Hospital in Vaikom first, and from there to the Medical College in Kottayam for tests as she had swelling on her forehead.

Speaking to The Logical Indian,  Vaikom police said that her statement has been taken and a case has been registered against Abhijith for dowry harassment and physical assault. “The investigation has begun and it’s on the right track, but we cannot divulge any more details,” said Vaikom CI Anilkumar S.
