Many times it happens that we forget something or the other while travelling in public transports. The gravity of loss varies with the kind of belongings we lose on the journey. Tiffins, books and mobile phone are the most commonly reported lost items and in most of the cases, there are higher chances of not get those belongings back. But what if one has forgotten a bag full of money on a bus? One might not be that optimistic of getting it back. However, some turn out to be lucky.
On January 19, Subhadra Dutta, from West Bengal was travelling on a Vayu Vajra bus in Bengaluru, unfortunately, she left her bag which had one lakh Rupees cash in it, on the bus. However, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) driver Shivakumar and conductor Yellappa Betageri’s honesty helped her to get her bag back. This gesture of these two gentlemen is winning the hearts of many, as reported by The Times Of India.
Cash, Mobile and documents in the bag
According to The Times Of India, on Wednesday, Subhadra boarded the BMTC bus from Kempegoda International Airport (KIA) at 2:15 pm and got off near Esteem Mall in Hebbal (Whitefield route.) The passenger left her blue and black colour bag which contained Rs 1 lakh cash, a mobile phone, ATM and her Aadhaar card on the bus.
After she realised that she has left her bag on the bus it was already too late and the bus had left the depot, however, she quickly approached the BMTC depot in Hebbal and informed them about her loss. Reacting quickly on to the girl’s complaints the BMTC’s staff called the BMTC crew at the airport and they asked them to inquire about her complaint.
“The woman had come to Bengaluru for some exam and was tense. She forgot to take the bag along with her. On checking, we found the bag on the seat. We asked her to come and collect it from depot 18,” said the bus driver Shivakumar.
Following the directions of the BMTC officials, Subhadra went to collect her bag and she got it back with all her belongings and the entire money. Relieved and pleased, she thanked the crew for their honesty.
Appreciation
After the news reached the ears of the BMTC officials, they said that both conductor and the bus driver would be honoured in the BMTC central office at Shantinagar on January 25, Friday. “There have been 96 such instances in the last one year where our drivers and conductors have exhibited honesty in returning lost pieces of luggage of passengers. However, some of them went unnoticed. Now we have decided to recognise such staff with awards and appreciate them so as to motivate others,” said BMTC officials.
