My Story: I Saved My Scholarship To Construct A Footpath So That People Can Walk To The Hospital Easily

I have been following your page for more than 2 Years now and have been reading inspiring stories about the contribution of young people in our society.
I don’t know whether the story that I am going to write you will be worth sharing on your page but it’s about my contribution in my town in the year 2013 when I was in my B.Sc 2nd year where I started a project known as “The Genesis Project, Tobu” along with the youths from my town.

Sir, We have a one small Community Health Centre in my town which is the only health centre in the entire locality, which is located around 2 Km away from the main town and since we belong to one of the most underdeveloped area with no proper road and proper electricity, what I heard when I go up to spend my winter vacation in the year 2012 from the city was that during the rainy season it becomes so difficult for the sick people to go down in the hospital as it is such a problem to climb down on Hills in the hospital as there is no footpath constructed for the poor people who don’t have cars.

I was so upset that I start saving my pocket money soon after I came down to continue with my academic classes in the city, I avoided hiring an auto, minimized my expenses, saved all my scholarship and decided to construct a footpath for the public. Soon after I finished my end semester exam in the month of March 2013, I went straight to my town and started to share my ideas to the youths and requested them to contribute some amount as it was around 600 feet long. I also open the facebook group where so many friends and well-wishers started to show us their support.

Soon after I got help from some of my friends I started the work and beg the youths to help physically as it will cost me double to hire a labor for the construction. So me and the youths from my Town work the whole day for 2 complete months. When the leaders from my town saw us doing the job which they were not able to do for years and years even after trying to apply for Local Area Development Fund they also started contributing some amount.

When our stories were heard by the journalist, media person from the local newspaper came up from the city covering around 400-500 km to hear our stories. The next day when our stories were published in the paper we got more and more help from all walks of life in the Nagaland. The total expenditure was around Rs 2,50,000 (two lakhs fifty thousand). The foot pavement which no one thought will be able to finish was completed with the help of my young friends and well-wishers from different part of the world.
