Kerala Nurse Receives Florence Nightingale Award For Saving The Girl Who Was Stabbed By Her Friend

A Keralite nurse, who had saved a woman’s life last month in Mangaluru was awarded the state-level Florence Nightingale Award on the night of July 27. The 22-year-old nurse who is working at the KS Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA), stopped a 27-year-old man from killing a 22-year-old girl in the broad daylight.

In a video captured by a resident in the vicinity which has gone viral on social media, the attacker – Sushant can be seen repeatedly stabbing a girl when the nurse approached him and brought the situation under control.

Nimmy Stephen Kulakkattu, the registered nurse told The News Minute that she was just doing her duty and was only thinking of saving the girl.

A native of Payyavoor, Nimmy was also conferred with a bravery award from the KS Hegde Institute.


What was the incident?

On June 29, Deeksha a resident of Bagambila was returning home from college around 4:30 pm, when Sushant approached and confronted her near the compound of KS Hegde Medical Academy. An argument broke out between the two and within a few minutes, Sushant pulled out a knife and started stabbing the girl on her abdomen. Eyewitnesses to the incident screamed at Sushant to stop the attack. They said that the attacker stabbed the girl 12 times.

The attacker even tried to commit suicide by slitting his own neck when some people tried to approach him. The initial investigation revealed the case to be of a relationship gone sour. Apparently, the girl was maintaining a distance from Sushant and had also joined an MBA course in a private college in Karkala. The victim has been shifted out of the Intensive Care Unit and is currently recuperating.
