Four men have been arrested for allegedly abducting and gang-raping a 15-year-old girl in a car painted with police logo in Halia, Uttar Pradesh on Monday, December 2.
The accused are identified as Jai Prakash, Luv Kumar Pal, Ganesh Prasad, and CRPF constable Mahendra Kumar Yadav. All the accused have been arrested and are booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Of the four accused Mahendra is a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable, while Jai Prakash Maurya is the son of a retired jailor Brijlal Maurya.
The victim’s father alleged that she was Jai Prakash befriended the victim when he used to visit his sister, who is a resident of the village. On December 2, he called the victim on her mobile phone and asked her to step out to meet him.
On a pretext to meet him on the village outskirts, about 50 km from the district headquarters Mirzapur, the crime was committed by the accused. Before the victim reached the place, the accused were already in a car and once the girl reached, they grabbed her and assaulted her in an isolated area.
The police intercepted the car while they were on duty for checking while they were on the way to the girl’s village in Halia. As the police stopped, the girl started to shout and pressed the alarm in the car, following which the four men and the girl were taken to the police station.
The car belongs to Jai Prakash, and the police are still probing how he painted the police logo on the vehicle.
