Do you think that you are too old to raise your bars and achieve your dreams? It is time to think again!

The fearless 101- year- old woman, Doris Long, abseiled more than 300 feet down the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth yesterday to break her own previous world record for the oldest abseiler. Being 5 feet tall and weighing eight stone, the centenarian has a daughter, three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Ms Long, who first abseiled at the age of 85, had performed her last feat on her 100th birthday in May 2014. Nicknamed as ‘Daring Doris’, she said on reaching the ground: “I don’t feel afraid and never have, I just have a placid nature.” She further asserted that though it was harder work than last year and it was so windy that she swung a little, she enjoyed it, “I feel its well worth”. She added that she looked down to see how the other person is getting on.

The adventurous pensioner took up the challenge to raise funds for the Rowans Hospice in Waterlooville. She has been honoured with an MBE for her charity fundraising and previously abseiled alongside new Top Gear host Chris Evans. She has already contributed more than £11,000 for the Rowans Hospice through more than a decade of fundraising.

Although she admitted that her body was aching with all the effort, she was hopeful about repeating the trial on her 102nd birthday next year.
