The investigation into the alleged abuse of toddlers at a daycare centre operating on Capgemini’s Brookefield campus in Bengaluru has taken a fresh turn after city police arrested a former daycare employee who recorded and circulated videos purportedly showing caregivers mistreating children.
According to police, the woman was arrested not merely for filming and sharing the videos actions they say violated child rights but also because investigators suspect she may have harassed some of the children herself, staged parts of the recordings, deleted videos from her phone and made contradictory statements during questioning.
She has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody. The videos allegedly show toddlers being threatened, locked inside bathrooms, sprayed with water using a toilet jet, forced to sit on toilets and even placed inside a front-loading washing machine.
While Capgemini has said it is fully cooperating with authorities and prioritises the safety of employees and their families, Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge has sought an explanation from the company, saying the state has “zero tolerance” for such incidents and that multinational firms must ensure strict compliance with childcare standards.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has also sought reports as the investigation continues.
Disturbing Videos Raise Questions
The case has sparked nationwide concern over the safety standards of workplace daycare facilities, particularly those serving very young children. Police said the daycare catered to children aged between two and three years, and the alleged abuse came to light after disturbing videos surfaced online.
According to investigators, the recordings appear to show caregivers intimidating toddlers whenever they cried or became restless, allegedly resorting to humiliating methods to silence them.
Authorities have clarified that all footage is undergoing forensic examination and that the authenticity and sequence of events are still being verified. The investigation expanded after officers questioned the woman who recorded the clips.
Senior police officials alleged that she had deleted several videos from her mobile phone before handing it over and offered conflicting explanations about the recordings. Based on these findings, investigators suspect she may have played a more active role than that of a whistleblower.
However, these allegations remain under investigation and will be tested through due legal process. In response, Capgemini stated, “Our foremost priority is the health, safety and well-being of our employees and their families,” adding that it is fully cooperating with law enforcement to establish the facts.
Government Seeks Accountability
The incident has prompted scrutiny from both state authorities and child rights institutions. Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge described the alleged abuse as “a matter that makes one hang one’s head in shame” and reiterated that the state has “zero tolerance” for any form of abuse involving children.
He said the government has sought a written clarification from Capgemini regarding the functioning and oversight of the daycare facility.
Stressing that global companies are expected to follow robust childcare policies and internationally accepted standards, Kharge questioned whether adequate background verification and recruitment checks had been carried out before caregivers were employed.
He also pointed to the Department of Women and Child Development’s existing guidelines governing daycare centres, including standards on staffing, safety, hygiene and child welfare, suggesting these protocols may not have been properly followed.
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has taken cognisance of the matter and sought reports from Karnataka authorities.
The ongoing investigation will also examine the contractual arrangements between Capgemini and the daycare operator, the authenticity of the videos, digital evidence recovered from electronic devices and the role of each individual allegedly involved.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
Allegations of abuse involving toddlers demand the highest level of sensitivity, transparency and accountability. While every accused person deserves a fair investigation and due process, the safety, dignity and emotional well-being of children must remain at the centre of every decision. This case also raises broader questions about how workplace daycare facilities are monitored, whether staff receive adequate training, and how organisations respond when concerns first emerge.
Parents place immense trust in childcare providers, especially those operating within reputed corporate campuses, making rigorous background checks, regular audits, clear reporting mechanisms and strict adherence to child protection norms non-negotiable.
