Lalita Babar broke her own national record in the Women’s 3000m steeplechase event of the 2015 World Athletics Championships in Beijing today. She bettered her own record of 9:34.13 mins which she clocked during the Asian Championships this year. She also qualified for the final, with the eighth best timing in the heats.

Lalita Shivaji Babar initially began her career as a long-distance runner. After becoming the hat-trick winner of the Mumbai Marathon in 2014, she decided to switch to 3000m steeplechase. In that very year, at 2014 Incheon Asian Games, she won the bronze medal clocking 9:35.37 min in the final. In the process, she also became the national record holder, bettering the record of Sudha Singh. Since then, she has bettered the national record twice- earlier at the 2015 Asian championships and now again at the 2015 world Championships in Beijing.

The final race is scheduled for Wednesday.
