Pune police have formed multiple teams and are analysing CCTV footage to trace the suspect, whose face was captured on camera. The case has reignited urgent concerns about women’s safety and delivery personnel verification in urban India.

Chilling Details Emerge: Crime, Threats, and Police Response

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Rajkumar Shinde, the incident occurred around 7:30 pm when the woman, who works at a private firm, was alone at home as her brother was out of town. The accused allegedly entered the flat under the pretext of delivering a bank envelope and asked for a pen to sign a document.

As the woman turned to fetch the pen, he entered, latched the door, and allegedly sprayed a substance to render her unconscious. After the assault, he took a selfie with her phone and left a message threatening to leak her photos if she reported the crime.

Police suspect a chemical spray was used and have called forensic experts to examine the scene. Ten police teams, five from the crime branch and five zonal—are working on the case, and a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Investigation and Community Outcry

Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the housing society, which has captured the suspect’s face, and are working to identify and apprehend him.

The incident has sparked shock and outrage among local residents and women’s safety advocates, who are demanding stricter verification processes for delivery personnel and better security in residential complexes.

Police have urged anyone with information to come forward and are intensifying patrols in the area. The survivor’s statement has been recorded, and she is being provided support as the investigation continues.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This harrowing case is a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities women face even within the supposed safety of their own homes. As doorstep services become more common, it is imperative for authorities, service providers, and communities to work together to ensure robust verification and accountability mechanisms.

We must demand systemic change, support survivors, and foster vigilance to prevent such crimes.
