“My dad was the best. I remember eating with him at big big hotels every night. It was all going great, but one day he turned into a different man. He started drinking too much and he would hit my mother. My brother and I would try and stop him but we would get hurt in the process, then the day came when he fell really ill. And he demanded my mother that he must see me. When I reached home from school, he took his last breath. I thought he was sleeping so I kept waiting the entire night.”

But despite all this, my mother remained strong. She made sure I went to school, even though all my relatives in my village are only worried about getting me married.”
