Watch: Gulf Countries Have Money To Build Golden Mosques But Not To Shelter Refugees

While countries – both rich and developing – in Europe and across the globe have extended a hand of friendship to some of the millions of people fleeing war-torn Syria, the richest states on the Arabian peninsula have remained silent.

Thousands of Syrians have been resettled in countries including Germany – the most generous – Canada, Norway and Australia.

But the six countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council – Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) – have so far failed to offer a single formal resettlement slot to Syrians escaping the twin dangers of Islamic State (ISIS) militants and government troops loyal to President Bashar al-Assad.
