Vyomini Social Foundation has recently entered into a one-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Public Police, a non-governmental organisation led by Justice K.G. Balakrishnan (Retd.), former Chief Justice of India and former Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission.
The agreement focuses on fostering sustainable sanitation, menstrual hygiene management, healthy lifestyle practices, behaviour change, and skill development among police personnel and sanitation workers throughout the National Capital Region (NCR).
This initiative aims not only to upgrade hygiene standards within the police force but also to empower underprivileged communities by promoting entrepreneurship and education around sanitation.
Promoting Hygiene and Awareness in Police Forces
As part of the collaboration, Vyomini will undertake sensitisation and training programmes targeting police officers and support staff stationed across NCR. These sessions are designed to improve hygiene behaviour, raise awareness about menstrual health, and enhance sanitation infrastructure in police stations.
Ms. Prachi Kaushik, Founder and Director of Vyomini Social Foundation, spoke at the MoU signing: “Our police personnel play a vital role in maintaining public order, yet their health and hygiene needs often remain overlooked. Through this partnership with Public Police, we aim to bring about sustainable behaviour change and create a healthier, more dignified work environment for them.”
The presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Justice Balakrishnan and Mr. Deo Datta, further underscored the initiative’s significance and commitment to public-police engagement and sanitation-linked entrepreneurship.
Skills Development and Economic Empowerment
Beyond hygiene, the MoU emphasises skill training for sanitation workers and encourages entrepreneurship in underprivileged sections associated with police infrastructure.
This approach seeks to foster sustainable livelihoods by building competencies in sanitation-related fields, creating an inclusive ecosystem that benefits both workers and their communities. Vyomini will also coordinate the installation of sanitary vending machines at police stations throughout NCR, a practical step aligned with promoting menstrual hygiene accessibility for police personnel.
These efforts reflect the shared vision of both Vyomini and Public Police to develop cleaner, safer, and more inclusive institutional environments.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
This partnership illustrates the powerful impact of collaborative efforts in addressing often-neglected issues of health and hygiene within essential public service sectors.
By integrating menstrual hygiene and sanitation awareness with skill development and entrepreneurship, Vyomini and Public Police demonstrate a compassionate approach that respects the dignity and wellbeing of police personnel while empowering grassroots communities.
Such initiatives represent progressive steps towards building institutions that value inclusivity, health, and empowerment alongside their operational mandates.
