On 2nd April, A street outside a well-known and prestigious temple was christened 'Ganesh Temple Street,' marking a watershed event for the Hindu population in the United States. The Hindu Temple is located in Queens County, in Flushing. Bowne Street, which runs alongside the temple, is named after John Bowne. During a special ceremony, the roadway was co-named 'Ganesh Temple Street' in honour of the famed Ganesh temple. The Hindu Temple Society of North America Sri Maha Vallabha Ganapati Devasthanam, also known as the Ganesh Temple, was founded in 1977 and is considered the first and oldest Hindu temple in North America.
