Ralph Wald Emerson once said, “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”

In today’s world of mercantilism, conformity is forced on us, especially our children. Those who toe the line that society mandates are lauded and rewarded while those who defect – even slightly – are either punished or isolated.

The school system is the best example for this: Our education system is broken. We don’t educate our children, we discipline them. We don’t encourage creative thinking in our children, we hamper their originality. We frown upon experimentation and are forever obsessed with clichés.

This is wrong. We should be encouraging our children to think outside the box and push the boundaries. We shouldn’t be killing critical thinking; we should be encouraging it.

This video by Pepe School Land is an excellent portrayal of how we are killing creativity and becoming slaves to conformism.
