International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde has appointed Harvard University professor Gita Gopinath as the Chief Economist of the IMF. She was born to a Malayalee family in Mysuru, Karnataka in 1971 and has gone on to become a prominent figure in the field of international economics.
