People’s Savings Worth Rs 5000 Crore Taken By Banks For Not Maintaining ‘Minimum Balance’

24 public and private sector banks collected a total of Rs 5000 crore in FY 2017-2018 as fines from customers for not maintaining the minimum balance in their accounts. SBI alone collected nearly half the amount followed by HDFC, Axis and ICICI banks.
