The United Nations has created a furor over its decision for handing Saudi Arabia a key human rights role even though the Kingdom “has arguably the worst record in the world” on freedoms for dissidents, minorities or women. The UN has been criticised for handing Saudi Arabia a key human rights role – despite the country having “arguably the worst record in the world” on freedoms for women, minorities and dissidents. Critics labelled the appointment of Faisal bin Hassan Trad, Saudi Arabia’s ambassador at the UN in Geneva, “scandalous”, saying it meant “oil trumps human rights”.
Here is a small list of those people who might not be happy to hear this:

Ali Mohammed Al – Nimr – He was arrested when he was 17 years old for taking part in an anti government protest in Saudi Arabia. After losing his final appeal, he is due to be beheaded and crucified.
Raid Badawai – The liberal Saudi blogger was sentenced to 10 years in jail and 1000 lashes in 2014. To quote Ensad Haider, Badawi’s wife, “The appointment is like green light to start flogging Raif Badwani again.”
Saudi Arabia has executed over 127 people by beheading this year. That is a huge increase from 83 executions in 2014.
Yemini Civilians – The Saudi coalition has been bombing Yemen since March, killing hundreds of civilians. Human Rights groups have accused them ot targeting heavily populated areas.
Julie Lenarz says on Twitter, “Hello @ UN – Can you explain why Saudi now leads your Human Rights Council Panel? They publicly display beheaded corpse.
Zanian – “Saudi Arabia has been chosen to head key UN Human Rights Panel; I want to laugh at the step back we are taking, but it is just too sad.”
Drew Lopiano – “Looks like there was an empty seat between North Korea and China #isthisreal#human right#UN

Our readers / viewers can watch for themselves and decide how logical or ridiculous this decision by the UN is.
