In Rampur district, Uttar Pradesh, a man named Sanju allegedly paraded his 8-month-old son upside down by the legs through the village to pressure his wife’s family over a dowry demand of Rs 2 lakh and a car. The infant reportedly suffered a dislocated hip and is undergoing medical treatment.

The incident, recorded in a viral video widely shared on social media on July 19, 2025, sparked public outrage. Police have registered a case against Sanju for disturbing public peace. The couple, married in November 2023, have been embroiled in an escalating dispute related to dowry demands.

Outrage Over Heinous Act Caught in Viral Video

On July 19, amid a family meeting meant to address ongoing conflicts, Sanju allegedly snatched his infant son from his wife, Suman, and swung the baby upside down while parading him through the village streets. Several locals witnessed and recorded this distressing act, which quickly went viral online, triggering widespread condemnation.

Suman accused her husband and her in-laws of repeated physical abuse and extortion related to dowry demands. The baby’s injury, including a dislocated hip, underscores the severe impact of this cruelty. Police Superintendent Vidyasagar Mishra stated, “Legal action has been taken against the accused father. We appeal to the public not to physically torture children in any dispute.” This appeal highlights the urgent need to protect children from becoming victims of domestic conflicts.

Dowry Dispute: A Grim Reminder of Deep-Rooted Social Evils

Married less than two years ago, the couple’s relationship has been marked by persistent tensions stemming from dowry demands—Rs 2 lakh in cash and a vehicle, as alleged by the wife. This brutal act by the father to coerce the wife’s family dramatizes the ongoing problem of dowry-related violence in India, despite strict laws like the Dowry Prohibition Act of 1961.

National Crime Records Bureau data reflects thousands of dowry-related deaths each year, indicating the grave and persistent nature of this social evil. The incident calls for heightened community awareness, stronger legal enforcement, and a cultural shift to eradicate dowry harassment and protect vulnerable women and children.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective: Compassion, Justice, and Collective Responsibility

At The Logical Indian, we strongly condemn this abhorrent case of child abuse involving dowry-related conflict. Such acts violate the fundamental rights of children and women and expose a critical failure in safeguarding the vulnerable.

Beyond legal consequences, what is needed is a transformation in societal attitudes—towards greater empathy, respect, and peaceful resolution of disputes. As a community, we must rise in collective responsibility to foster a culture that rejects all forms of cruelty and supports justice and kindness.
