A 31-year-old woman, Bhadripalli Padmaja, was allegedly murdered by her husband in Andhra Pradesh’s Kadapa district after he reportedly poisoned her with sweets laced with a toxic substance purchased through a YouTuber and later suffocated her when the poisoning failed, police said.
The accused, Bhadripalli Kiran, was taken into custody after a postmortem examination confirmed the presence of poison in the victim’s body.
According to Proddatur additional superintendent of police Vibhu Krishna, the couple had reportedly been experiencing marital discord for several years, with frequent arguments over Padmaja’s eating habits, health issues, and Kiran’s alleged extramarital relationship with a Hyderabad-based woman.
Police have clarified that the woman was not involved in the crime. Investigators are now searching for the YouTuber who allegedly sold the poison for Rs 80,000 and has since gone absconding. The chilling case has sparked concerns over the misuse of social media platforms to facilitate violent crimes and access illegal substances.
Online Search Allegedly Led Murder
According to the police investigation, Kiran had allegedly been planning the murder for several weeks and extensively searched social media platforms and online videos to learn how to poison someone without leaving behind evidence.
Officials said he eventually contacted a YouTuber who allegedly supplied him with a poisonous substance in exchange for nearly Rs 80,000. Police believe the transaction was carefully concealed, indicating premeditation and planning.
On the night of April 29-30, Kiran allegedly mixed the poison into sweets and served them to Padmaja at their residence in Proddatur town of Andhra Pradesh’s Kadapa district. Soon after consuming the sweets, Padmaja reportedly collapsed. However, investigators said she was still alive and breathing, prompting Kiran to allegedly suffocate her with a pillow during the early hours of April 30.
In an attempt to avoid suspicion, Kiran allegedly staged the death as an accident and informed family members that Padmaja had slipped from the bed and become unconscious. Doctors called to the house declared her dead on arrival. Initially, the incident appeared to be a case of sudden death, but inconsistencies in Kiran’s statements and suspicions raised by the victim’s family prompted police to investigate further.
“The accused YouTuber has gone underground, switched off his phone and is absconding. We will soon trace and arrest him,” Proddatur additional superintendent of police Vibhu Krishna told reporters while confirming the ongoing investigation into the online sale of the poison.
Officials further stated that the accused husband allegedly confessed to the crime during police interrogation after forensic evidence contradicted his initial version of events. Investigators are now examining Kiran’s digital activity, financial transactions, and communication records to identify how the poison was procured and whether a larger illegal network may be operating online.
Marital Discord And Murder Probe
Police said the relationship between Kiran and Padmaja had reportedly deteriorated over time due to repeated domestic disputes. According to investigators, Kiran was unhappy with Padmaja’s obesity and what he allegedly described as her addiction to junk food, which frequently became a source of arguments between the couple.
The situation reportedly worsened about a year ago when Kiran entered into an alleged extramarital relationship with a woman based in Hyderabad. However, officials have clarified that the woman had no role in the murder conspiracy and has not been named as an accused in the case.
The case came to light after Padmaja’s father, Raja Kullayi, filed a complaint with the police expressing suspicion over his daughter’s sudden death. Based on the complaint, Proddatur police initially registered a suspicious death case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and ordered a postmortem examination.
The forensic report later revealed traces of poisonous substances in Padmaja’s body, which significantly changed the direction of the investigation and led to Kiran’s detention.
Police said the findings exposed an alleged attempt to conceal murder under the guise of an accidental death. The incident has also drawn attention to the increasing misuse of online platforms, where dangerous substances and criminal advice are allegedly being circulated without oversight.
Investigators are reportedly coordinating with cybercrime officials to track the absconding YouTuber and uncover how such content and illegal transactions continue to evade regulation.
The case has triggered outrage and concern across social media, with many questioning how digital spaces are increasingly becoming tools for enabling violence.
Experts have also highlighted the need for stronger monitoring mechanisms to prevent the spread of harmful content online, particularly material that promotes violence or illegal activities under the guise of anonymous advice channels.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
The alleged murder of Padmaja is deeply disturbing not only because of its brutality, but also because it reflects a dangerous combination of domestic toxicity, misogyny, emotional alienation, and irresponsible misuse of digital platforms. No disagreement within a marriage whether related to health, body image, lifestyle choices, or emotional incompatibility can ever justify violence. When communication breaks down and resentment is allowed to grow unchecked, the consequences can become devastating for families and communities alike.
This case also raises larger ethical and social questions about the growing influence of online spaces in shaping harmful behaviour. The possibility that an individual could allegedly purchase poison and seek guidance for murder through social media platforms points to serious gaps in digital accountability and law enforcement oversight. Technology can be a powerful tool for education and support, but when left unchecked, it can also become a dangerous enabler of hate, manipulation, and crime.
