The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Thursday, November 5, declared the results of the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026, with 2,526 candidates qualifying for the Personality Test (Interview). The Main examination was conducted from August 21 to 30 after 13,343 candidates qualified for the written stage.
Those shortlisted will now appear for the Personality Test for selection to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and other Central Services. The UPSC has not yet announced the interview dates.
2,526 Clear Mains
The UPSC said candidates who have been declared successful in the Civil Services (Main) Examination have qualified for the Personality Test. Their candidature remains provisional, subject to their being found eligible in all respects. At the interview stage, candidates will have to produce original certificates supporting their eligibility and reservation claims, including documents related to age, educational qualifications, community, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) status and Person with Benchmark Disability (PwBD), among others.
1,016 Vacancies Notified
The 2026 Civil Services Examination is being conducted against 1,016 notified vacancies. Earlier, 13,343 candidates had qualified for the Main examination after clearing the Preliminary Examination, which was held on May 24, 2026. The Preliminary Examination is the screening stage, while candidates who clear the Main examination move to the Personality Test before the final selection is made.
Interviews Next Stage
The Personality Tests will be held at the UPSC office at Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi. The Commission will announce the interview schedule separately and issue e-Summon Letters to eligible candidates. The UPSC has specified that candidates will not receive physical or paper summons. Candidates are advised to regularly check the Commission’s website for further updates.
Online Details Mandatory
Candidates who have qualified for the Personality Test must fill in, update or reconfirm the required details online and finally submit the application form through the UPSC’s online portal. The facility will remain available from November 11 to November 25, 2026, until 6 pm. The Commission has stated that even candidates who have already uploaded the required information and have nothing to update must log in, verify their details and finally submit the form. Failure to do so will mean that an e-Summon Letter will not be issued.
How To Check Results
Candidates can check their Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026 written result through the official UPSC website, upsc.gov.in. They can visit the ‘What’s New’ section or the ‘Results’ section and look for the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026 written result notification.
UPSC has also published a separate name-wise written result listing the names and roll numbers of candidates who have qualified for the Personality Test (Interview). Candidates can download the official PDF and search for their roll number or name to check their result.
Use Official Websites
Candidates should rely only on the UPSC’s official website for the result and subsequent instructions. The online application-related process specified by the Commission will be available through upsconline.nic.in during the notified period. The UPSC has advised candidates to regularly visit its website for further updates regarding the Personality Test.
Documents Need Verification
Candidates claiming reservation or other eligibility-related benefits will have to produce the relevant original documents at the Personality Test. The UPSC has specifically listed documents relating to age, educational qualifications, community, EWS, PwBD and other eligibility or reservation claims. Candidates should follow the requirements and instructions contained in the Commission’s official notice rather than relying on third-party information.
Final Merit Comes Later
Clearing the Mains examination does not guarantee final selection. The candidates who have qualified will still have to appear for the Personality Test, following which the Commission will proceed with the final selection process for the notified services. The current result is therefore a written-stage result, not the final Civil Services Examination result.
Marksheets After Results
The UPSC has said the marksheets of candidates will be made available after the Personality Tests and declaration of the final result. The Commission’s current notice should be treated as the authoritative source for the timing and availability of marksheets and other examination-related information.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
The UPSC examination is more than a test of academic preparation; it is a gateway to public institutions that directly affect people’s everyday lives. As 2,526 candidates move towards the Personality Test, the process must remain fair, transparent and accessible, while recognising the years of preparation, uncertainty and personal sacrifice behind every successful candidate. Ultimately, those selected will be entrusted with decisions that affect millions of citizens. What qualities should India prioritise in its future civil servants beyond examination scores?
