In a disturbing incident caught on CCTV, Brijendra Kumar Verma, a headmaster at a primary school in the Mahmudabad block of Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, violently assaulted Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) Akhilesh Pratap Singh with a belt inside the BSA office.

The assault happened during an inquiry into complaints by a woman teacher against Verma. When Singh expressed dissatisfaction over Verma’s explanation, Verma suddenly slammed his file on the desk, pulled out his belt, and struck Singh at least six times in rapid succession before staff intervened.

The Incident and Eyewitness Accounts

Eyewitnesses describe how the situation escalated quickly. The video shows Verma becoming visibly enraged, violently lashing out with his belt as Singh attempted to shield himself. When Singh tried to call the police on his mobile phone, Verma snatched it away and destroyed it.

He also tore important government files in the office and clashed with other staff members who tried to restrain him. The chaotic scene reportedly ended only when police arrived and arrested Verma at the site. The assaulted officer has been sent for medical examination, and the police have registered a case for assault and destruction of government property.

Official Response and Investigation

Following the attack, authorities swiftly suspended Verma and launched an inquiry into his conduct. Anup Shukla, the station in-charge, confirmed that police recovered the belt, torn files, and the destroyed phone as evidence. The case is being investigated under relevant legal provisions related to assault and harassment within the workplace.

Singh’s complaint labelled the attack as a premeditated act intended to threaten and intimidate government staff during official duties. Education officials have called for strict disciplinary action against Verma, highlighting the gravity of violence in official government settings.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This appalling case highlights urgent issues around professional conduct and workplace safety in education sectors. Violence against officials responsible for upholding accountability and discipline undermines the very institutions tasked with nurturing young minds.

Education environments must foster respectful dialogue, transparent processes, and swift intervention to prevent conflicts escalating to physical assaults.
