On August 6, 2025, Nisha Singh, a 33-year-old married woman from Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh, suffered a brutal attack that led to her death. Nisha was reportedly set on fire by a local man named Deepak and his accomplices after she refused to speak to him. Despite suffering severe burns, she showed remarkable strength by riding her scooter to a nearby clinic, screaming for help.

Witnesses and medical staff immediately rushed her to more advanced hospitals, including Lohia Hospital and Saifai Medical College. Sadly, she passed away during the transfer to the medical college, unable to survive her injuries. According to senior police officer Sanjay Kumar, an FIR has been lodged, and four investigation teams are actively pursuing the accused for arrest.

Family’s Pain and Silence

Nisha’s family has shared harrowing details about the harassment she endured for months but concealed from them. Her father, Balram Singh, was called to the hospital by the doctor after Nisha arrived severely burnt, pleading for him to save her and identifying Deepak as her attacker. Nisha’s sister, Neetu Singh, disclosed that only she was aware of the stalking and pressure Nisha faced, while her parents and husband remained in the dark.

Nisha’s husband, Amit Chauhan, expressed shock, saying she never confided in him despite their regular conversations. This silence highlights the deep social stigma and fear surrounding harassment victims, often leaving them isolated in their trauma.

Ongoing Police Investigation

Police sources revealed the case is being treated with top priority. The investigation focuses on not only confirming the identity and involvement of Deepak and his associates but also understanding the circumstances leading up to the attack. While family members allege foul play, police officials have also mentioned examining other angles, including the possibility of self-inflicted injuries, based on CCTV footage and other leads.

Authorities have scanned several CCTV cameras, but the exact scene of the crime remains unidentified. The tragedy underscores ongoing challenges in protecting women from stalking and targeted violence in Uttar Pradesh, a state grappling with frequent reports of gender-based crimes.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

Nisha Singh’s tragic death is a heart-wrenching reminder of the urgent need for comprehensive measures to protect women from harassment and violence.

Beyond harsher laws and police action, there must be an emphasis on building social environments where victims can feel safe to share their struggles without fear or shame. Empowering women with support networks, accessible counselling, and proactive community engagement is critical.
