The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Wednesday issued a firm denial of a fabricated notice circulating online that falsely claimed all university examinations across India were cancelled due to a “war-like situation” following India’s Operation Sindoor military strikes.
The UGC clarified that no such directive exists and urged students, parents, and educational institutions to rely solely on official UGC channels for updates. Operation Sindoor involved precision airstrikes on nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
The Indian Army confirmed measured responses to ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC), while misinformation continues to spread on social media, prompting official warnings against fake news.
UGC Alerts Students to Fake Exam Cancellation Notice
The fake notice, widely shared on social media, falsely claimed that all exams were cancelled and advised students to return home amid a “war-like situation.” The UGC’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle stated, “A fabricated public notice is being circulated under the name UGC, claiming that all exams are cancelled due to a war situation and advising students to return home.
UGC confirms this notice is fake. There are no such directions from UGC.” The commission urged students to follow only official updates published on the UGC website and verified social media accounts, warning that spreading misinformation is a punishable offence. Students have been advised to continue preparing for exams as scheduled unless officially informed otherwise.
Operation Sindoor and Rising Indo-Pak Tensions
Operation Sindoor, launched in the early hours of May 7, targeted nine terror camps linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed across Pakistan and PoJK, including locations in Muzaffarabad and Bahawalpur. The strikes reportedly killed over 70 terrorists and significantly degraded the operational capabilities of these groups.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, along with senior military officers, described the operation as “focused, measured, and non-escalatory.” The strikes followed the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen. Pakistan responded with artillery fire along the LoC, including in Bhimber Gali, violating the ceasefire agreement. The Indian Army responded in a calibrated manner, as confirmed by official sources.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
In times of heightened conflict and uncertainty, misinformation can amplify fear and disrupt the lives of students and families. The Logical Indian strongly condemns the spread of fake news and urges all stakeholders to verify information through credible sources, fostering peace, empathy, and responsible communication.
Upholding truth and harmony is essential to navigating such crises constructively. How can communities work together to build resilience against misinformation while supporting each other amid national challenges?
