Two minor sisters, aged 12 and 14, from Gomtinagar in Lucknow have brought to light a horrifying tale of repeated sexual abuse and violence allegedly inflicted by their stepfather over several months. The girls managed to escape their home and made a distress call to the emergency number 1090 on Friday, which led to swift police action.
The 35-year-old accused, who reportedly works in a mall, was detained by the Gomtinagar police based on the serious allegations. The girls disclosed that their stepfather would regularly come home intoxicated and subjected them to sexual abuse, resorting to physical violence if they resisted. The mother of the girls, when informed, allegedly dismissed their complaints and reprimanded them to keep silent, raising serious concerns about the protective environment for the children.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the law and have begun questioning both the accused and the mother while the girls await medical examinations as part of the investigation.
Harrowing Abuse and Immediate Rescue
The two sisters bravely reported to emergency services their escape from an environment of dread and repeated assault. According to Inspector Brajesh Chandra Tiwari of Gomtinagar police, the girls’ distress call to 1090 triggered immediate law enforcement response.
The sisters revealed that the abuse had persisted over months, with their stepfather frequently intoxicated. The physical and psychological trauma included beatings intended to subdue their resistance to the assaults. It was noted that despite their plea to their mother for help, the children were met with reprimands and urged to silence, compounding their vulnerability.
The police have taken the case seriously and swiftly detained the stepfather, who denies all allegations, claiming he is being falsely implicated.
A Troubled Family History
The disturbing case is made more complex by the backdrop of family tragedy. The girls’ biological father was murdered around ten years ago, and the accused stepfather was previously imprisoned on allegations related to that crime. After his release, he married the girls’ mother and began living with the family. The sisters have expressed deep-seated mistrust and dislike for him in light of his past, further strained by the ongoing abuses.
The mother’s failure to act on their abuse disclosures has prompted police to question her role and involvement, indicating a potential lapse in guardianship and protection. This history underscores the critical need for vigilant child protection measures especially in vulnerable family situations.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
This painful narrative highlights the wider societal challenge of safeguarding children within the sanctity of their own homes, a place that should inherently assure safety, love, and protection. The Logical Indian urges for heightened awareness, robust intervention mechanisms, and empathetic policing that prioritises the voices of survivors.
Families and communities must cultivate environments where children can speak out without fear of dismissal or stigma. The justice system, social services, and civil society all share the responsibility to intervene decisively to prevent recurrent abuses.
These sisters’ courage in seeking help must inspire deeper reflection on how society can strengthen support structures, improve education on child rights, and enact stricter accountability measures for perpetrators and those complicit.
