Uttarakashi Tunnel Collapse: Rescue Operation Continues For 41 Trapped Workers, Food & Water Delivered

In a significant development, rescuers working tirelessly to save the 41 workers trapped in the Silkyara tunnel collapse site have successfully threaded a six-inch pipeline through the debris. This lifeline has enabled the delivery of food to the stranded workers, providing them with sustenance for the first time since they were trapped.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who has been closely monitoring the rescue operation, reaffirmed the government's commitment to prioritize the safety of the workers and ensure their swift evacuation. "We are working with top priority to bring all the workers out safely," Dhami stated.

The successful threading of the pipeline marks a crucial step forward in the rescue efforts. It not only provides a means to supply food and water to the trapped workers but also establishes a vital connection for communication and potential air supply.

With the lifeline in place, the focus now shifts to extracting the workers safely from the collapsed tunnel. The rescue team is employing a combination of strategies, including digging and cutting through the debris, to create a passage for the workers' evacuation.

On November 12, a tunnel under construction between Silkyara and Barkot in the state of Uttarakhand, India, suffered a collapse, trapping 41 workers within its depths. The incident occurred when muck fell in a 60-meter stretch on the Silkyara side of the tunnel, encasing the workers in a precarious situation.

According to official statements, the trapped workers are located within a 2-kilometer section of the tunnel that has already been completed, with concrete work in place to ensure worker safety. Despite these measures, the tunnel collapse has left the workers stranded, their well-being hanging in the balance.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his optimism regarding the ongoing rescue operation, stating that an auger machine capable of horizontal drilling is actively engaged in the rescue efforts. "The auger machine is working and we hope that all our worker brothers will be out safely soon," Dhami affirmed.
