"Al For Resilient Future": Al Holds Potential To Create 100 Million Jobs

The gathering featured a dynamic roundtable discussion on new energies with industry stalwarts, the unveiling of the IET India Awards, and the recognition of outstanding achievers through the IET Scholarship Awards. The keynote address was delivered by Dr Gopichand Katragadda, a distinguished technology veteran and the Founder of Myelin Foundry.

Dr Katragadda underscored a pivotal focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) jobs for India, emphasizing the sector's potential to generate a staggering 100 million jobs. According to his vision, 70 percent of these jobs would be dedicated to data creation and annotation, 20 percent to application development, and the remaining 10 percent contributing to globally leading algorithms.

"The engineering ecosystem in India is undergoing a dramatic transformation leveraging and driving AI-based outcomes," stated Dr Katragadda, highlighting the transformative role that AI can play. As the head of one of the largest engineering bodies globally, he expressed a commitment to mobilize the engineering community towards using AI for social good.

Shekhar Sanyal, Country Head and Director - IET India, emphasized India's technological prowess on the global stage. Sanyal remarked, "Given India's skilled talent pool and a culture of continuous innovation, the country is in a strong position to set new global technology standards." He envisioned a future where India not only manufactures products to address global needs but engineers solutions for longstanding challenges across various industries.

Under Dr Katragadda's leadership, the IET aims to play a pivotal role in steering discussions to establish a strategic plan for the responsible, inclusive, and ethical implementation of technology. Ed Almond, Chief Executive and Secretary of The IET (Global), stressed the importance of global collaboration and knowledge sharing in the rapidly evolving technology ecosystem. He highlighted India's crucial role as a global talent hub, emphasizing the industry-academia skills gap as a significant challenge that demands collaborative efforts for resolution.

"Today, one of the biggest challenges faced by the industry is a widening industry-academia skills gap, and concerted collaboration efforts are key to bridging the same. Engineers across the world must converge to deliberate, innovate, and chart solutions to the pressing challenges of our times, and the IET plays an important role in leading this," stated Ed Almond.

The event marks a significant step towards shaping the future of engineering in India, with a clear emphasis on leveraging AI for societal benefit, setting global standards, and fostering collaboration to address challenges in the ever-evolving technological landscape.
