In Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, 28-year-old Gyaneshwar allegedly strangled his eight-month pregnant wife, Anusha (27), to death following a domestic dispute on Monday morning. The couple, married two years ago against Anusha’s family’s wishes, lived in Madhurawada locality.
After the attack, Gyaneshwar informed Anusha’s family, who rushed her to KG Hospital where she was declared dead. Gyaneshwar later surrendered to the PM Palem police, who have registered a murder case and are investigating the incident. Anusha’s relatives are demanding strict legal action against the accused.
A Fatal Dispute in Madhurawada
Anusha, originally from Adduroad in Anakapalli district, and Gyaneshwar, a resident of Duvvada locality, had a love marriage two years ago. The couple ran a small fast-food stall near Scouts and Sagarnagar viewpoint in Visakhapatnam.
According to neighbours and relatives, the couple had frequent arguments over personal and financial issues. On Monday morning, a heated argument escalated into violence when Gyaneshwar allegedly strangled Anusha with a cloth, causing her to lose consciousness.
Relatives were immediately informed, and Anusha was rushed to KG Hospital. Despite medical efforts, she was declared dead on arrival. Gyaneshwar later surrendered to the police and confessed to the crime.
Police Response and Legal Proceedings
Following the incident, PM Palem police promptly registered a case under Sections 302 (murder) and 498A (domestic cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code. The police have sent Anusha’s body for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and gather forensic evidence.
In a statement, the police assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that the accused will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Authorities have also appealed to the community to report any signs of domestic abuse early, emphasising the importance of intervention before conflicts escalate.
Legal experts note that while laws exist to protect women and unborn children, enforcement and awareness remain critical challenges.
