Living in times when growth of the upper-middle class has been on the rise, we are no strangers to selfless contributions made to NGOs and charitable organizations by successful individuals and corporations. But those rare scenarios, where the donors actually initiate and take part in the plan to see it through, always takes us by surprise.

Recently, one such individual has surfaced in Ahmadabad- Jerambhai Thesia. He left Surat, where he used to run a successful diamond business, and returned to his native village in Amreli Babra area to work towards the betterment of lives of farmers.

Jerambhai has been silently working on an irrigation project from the past three months to help the farmers of his village who are often cut-off from access to water owing to their location. He has been digging the Thebi river in the Amreli district hoping to create an efficient system for irrigation in the dry region that is often plagued by droughts and persistent water shortages.

As reported by the Times Of India, the 65-year-old said “Being the son of a farmer, I have seen people of my village struggling for a single drop of water. In my childhood only I had decided that if I became rich, I will do something for my village. Today I have everything. So I want to return all my wealth to the society. I want to work till my last breath.”

While he has also been the financial backbone for the ongoing work, his wife contributes everyday by arranging food for all the workers involved.

Thesia claims that he has already been able to dig one fourth of the 8 km long river and also hopes to improvise his project by building dams across the river. If he succeeds in his mission, numerous villages in the vicinity will be benefited and monsoon will not be the only thing that would decide the fate of the crops.

The Logical Indian hopes that Jerambhai Thesia achieves his goals and also appreciates him for his brilliant efforts so far.
