In a significant pre-election announcement during his rallies in Durg and Ratlam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the extension of the free ration scheme for the impoverished for the next five years. The announcement comes ahead of elections in five states this month, where PM Modi took the opportunity to criticize the Congress party, alleging that it aims to perpetuate poverty.
Addressing the crowd in Durg, PM Modi stated, “I have decided that the BJP government will extend the scheme of providing free ration to 80 crore poor people of the country for the next 5 years.Your affections and blessings give me the power to take such decisions.”
A parallel announcement was made in Ratlam, where PM Modi asserted that the extension of the free ration scheme is a “guarantee of Modi.” He emphasized that the funds saved by the less fortunate through this initiative would address their other essential needs, reported
The National Food Security Act, introduced by the Centre in December of the previous year, initially promised free food grains to over 81 crore people for one year.
During his address in Durg, PM Modi recalled the formation of Chhattisgarh under a BJP-led government and promised to bring prosperity to the state. He criticized the Congress, accusing them of never delivering anything substantial to the poor and lacking an understanding of their struggles.
In a scathing remark, PM Modi targeted Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel over allegations related to a betting app, stating, “Congress party’s Chhattisgarh government has left no opportunity to loot you.”
The Prime Minister asserted that all scams in the state would be thoroughly investigated, and those found guilty would face consequences. He assured the public that accountability would be maintained, saying, “Action will indeed be taken against those who looted Chhattisgarh.”
Elections for the 90-member Chhattisgarh Assembly are scheduled in two phases, with the first phase of polling for 20 seats on November 7 and the remaining 70 seats on November 17. Additionally, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan, and Telangana are set to go to the polls during November, with vote counting slated for December 3. The Congress has rejected the allegations against them, attributing them to the BJP’s anxiety over the upcoming assembly polls in Chhattisgarh.
