The scheme has not only transformed the dynamics of air travel but has also paved the way for the emergence of four new airlines over the past six years. This development has significantly bolstered the demand for new aircraft, affirming UDAN’s pivotal role in the industry’s growth, as highlighted in an official release by the government.
UDAN has opened up new opportunities for small regional airlines like FlyBig, Star Air, and IndiaOne Air, allowing them to expand their operations and contribute to the growth of a conducive ecosystem for the aviation business.
The inaugural UDAN flight took off on April 27, 2017, connecting the picturesque locales of Shimla to the bustling city of Delhi, marking the beginning of a transformative journey for regional air connectivity.
According to the release by the civil aviation ministry, the extensive coverage of 499 operational routes under UDAN has facilitated seamless travel for millions, while simultaneously driving the demand for a diverse fleet of aircraft, ranging from helicopters and seaplanes to propeller planes and jets.
Minister of Civil Aviation, Jyotiraditya Scindia, hailed UDAN’s transformative impact, emphasizing how the scheme has unlocked India’s true potential by fostering tourism, fostering trade, and empowering local economies.
