Investigation Underway Following Destruction

The fire erupted around 10:30 PM on Friday, quickly engulfing the parking area near platform one. Eyewitness accounts suggest that an initial short circuit was addressed, but a subsequent spark ignited petrol from one of the motorcycles, leading to the rapid spread of flames. Local authorities confirmed that a joint investigation team, including officials from the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and forensic experts, is currently examining the site to determine the exact cause of the fire. GRP inspector Hemant Singh stated that evidence has been collected for analysis. Superintendent of Police GRP Prayag, Abhishek Yadav, visited the site on Saturday morning to assess the damage and hold discussions with railway officials.

Impact on Railway Employees

The devastating fire has left many railway employees grappling with significant losses. Most of the vehicles destroyed belonged to staff members who rely on their two-wheelers for daily commutes. The Additional Divisional Railway Manager expressed regret over the substantial impact on employees and announced that a committee has been formed to investigate further and recommend improvements. Railway unions are advocating for compensation for affected workers, emphasising the personal and financial toll this disaster has taken on their lives.

Background on Safety Protocols

This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding safety measures at public transportation facilities. Previous incidents have raised alarms about electrical system vulnerabilities in busy areas like railway station parking lots. In response to this disaster, officials have promised upgrades to electrical systems and enhanced fire prevention measures at railway facilities. The railway authorities are under pressure to enhance infrastructure and implement stringent safety checks in light of this incident.

Statements from Officials

Additional Divisional Railway Manager Lalji Chaudhary stated, “A lot of damage has been caused, but thankfully, there has been no loss of life.” He confirmed that a committee is investigating the cause of the fire and assessing damages. Superintendent of Police GRP Prayag highlighted the importance of understanding how such incidents occur to prevent future disasters.
