A 25-year-old Air India pilot, Srishti Tuli, was found dead in her Mumbai flat on November 25, 2024, allegedly having died by suicide. Her boyfriend, 27-year-old Aditya Pandit, has been arrested on charges of abetment after her family accused him of harassment and public humiliation. Tuli had reportedly struggled with mental health issues exacerbated by Pandit’s alleged abuse, including controlling her eating habits. The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, which has sparked widespread concern about mental health and domestic abuse.

Tragic Death of a Young Pilot

Srishti Tuli’s body was discovered in her rented apartment in Andheri on November 25. According to police reports, she was found hanging with a data cable after allegedly calling Pandit to express her suicidal intentions. Despite his immediate return to Mumbai, he found the door locked and had to enlist a key maker’s help to enter. Tuli was rushed to Seven Hills Hospital but was declared dead upon arrival. Her family has claimed that Pandit frequently insulted her, particularly regarding her dietary choices, which contributed to her distress. “My niece’s boyfriend often harassed and humiliated her in public,” stated her uncle, underscoring the family’s belief that Pandit’s actions played a crucial role in her tragic decision.

Background of Abuse and Control

Tuli and Pandit met while training for their Commercial Pilot Licenses in Delhi two years ago and began living together after she moved to Mumbai for work in June 2023. Initial investigations reveal a pattern of abusive behaviour from Pandit, who allegedly pressured Tuli to abandon non-vegetarian food and often belittled her in front of others. Following a heated argument on Sunday night, Pandit left for Delhi but returned after receiving Tuli’s alarming call.

Legal Proceedings and Investigation

The Powai police have arrested Pandit under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for abetting suicide. Investigators are examining the dynamics of their relationship and the events leading up to Tuli’s death. Authorities are also looking into any additional evidence that may shed light on the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This heartbreaking incident highlights the urgent need for awareness around mental health and the impact of emotional abuse in relationships. It is crucial that society fosters an environment where individuals feel safe to speak out against harassment and seek help without fear of stigma or retribution. As we reflect on Srishti Tuli’s tragic story, we must ask ourselves: how can we better support those struggling with mental health issues and ensure that no one feels isolated or trapped in an abusive relationship? Your thoughts and experiences are vital—let’s engage in this conversation and work towards a more compassionate community.
