A wedding celebration in Lucknow descended into chaos late on Monday night when a group of students from a local university gatecrashed the event, reportedly in search of free food. The incident occurred at Ramadhin Marriage Lawn, resulting in injuries to around 20 guests and leaving approximately 3,000 attendees without a meal. The bride’s father, Rinku Sonkar, expressed his dismay as the students allegedly misbehaved with guests and caused significant disruption. Following the incident, police have registered an FIR against the students involved, citing charges of rioting and causing harm.

Violence Erupts Over Uninvited Guests

The trouble began when around 150 students arrived uninvited at the wedding of Rinku Sonkar’s daughter. Eyewitness accounts indicate that tensions escalated after the hosts questioned their presence. “When we confronted them, they became aggressive,” stated Dilesh Kumar, Station House Officer of Hasanganj. After an initial altercation, some students left but returned with reinforcements, leading to violent confrontations that included stone pelting and the use of crude bombs against wedding guests. Videos from the scene have surfaced on social media, showing the extent of the chaos as police were called to restore order.

Background and Community Response

This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding student behaviour and public safety during social events. The police confirmed that an FIR has been filed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code at Hasanganj police station after complaints were received from both parties involved. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Manisha Singh stated that five individuals were seriously injured in the clash and required hospitalisation. Meanwhile, relatives of the bride and groom reported that students misbehaved with women and disrupted the wedding festivities.

Impact on the Wedding Celebration

The aftermath of this incident has left a significant impact on the bride’s family and their guests. Rinku Sonkar lamented that despite elaborate preparations for 3,000 guests, no one could eat due to the pandemonium. “We had decorated the mandap with great enthusiasm, but everything was ruined by those under the influence of alcohol,” he said. Manoj Sonkar, father of the groom, added that some uninvited youths even attempted to join the wedding procession before chaos erupted.

Official Statements and Legal Action

In response to the violence, local authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible for the disturbances. Police spokespersons confirmed that they are investigating further to identify all parties involved in this troubling incident. The Lucknow police noted that some students protested their detention, alleging bias from law enforcement and claiming they were provoked by wedding attendees.
