The incident, which occurred around 10:45 PM on November 15, is believed to have been caused by an electrical short circuit. The Uttar Pradesh government has announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured, while a multi-level investigation is underway.

The fire broke out in a ward that was overcrowded with approximately 49 infants, despite having a capacity of only 18 beds. Eyewitness accounts describe a chaotic scene as medical staff evacuated patients amidst thick smoke. Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak confirmed that while 10 children have died, efforts are ongoing to identify three unidentified bodies. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep sorrow over the incident, stating, “The death of children in an accident that took place in the NICU of the medical college is extremely sad and heartbreaking.” He assured that the injured are receiving necessary medical care across various facilities.
