Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has articulated an ambitious vision to develop Osmania University on par with world-renowned institutions like Stanford and Oxford. Describing the university as “synonymous with Telangana,” Reddy announced a substantial investment plan, pledging Rs 1000 crore towards its development. He ordered the constitution of a dedicated committee comprising engineers, professors, and officials to prepare a detailed development roadmap.
The CM emphasized that this initiative aims to revive Osmania’s academic and research excellence, restoring its position as a beacon of intellectual wealth and a role model for higher education institutions nationally and globally. A follow-up meeting is scheduled in December at the Arts College, promising further fund announcements and administrative engagement without police presence, fostering a supportive atmosphere for student activism and dialogue.

On August 25, 2025, Reddy became the first Telangana Chief Minister in 20 years to visit the Osmania University campus, culminating his visit by inaugurating three new hostels, including Dhundubhi and Bhima, capable of housing 1,200 students and built at a cost of Rs 80 crore.
Alongside, he laid the foundation stone for a digital library reading room, with support from the tribal welfare department and an investment of Rs 10 crore. This visit marked a significant political milestone after a long hiatus following student opposition to former CM K Chandrashekar Rao’s presence in 2015. Despite the new hostels and development promises, current campus conditions reveal ongoing hardships for many students. Reports of old hostels like the E1, housing law students, detail distressing issues such as waterlogging, electric hazards, lack of clean drinking water, and inadequate sanitation, impacting day-to-day student life.
The university administration has acknowledged these problems and is considering relocating affected students to the newly inaugurated hostels, reflecting a need for sustained infrastructure improvements alongside visionary largesse. Reddy’s commitment to transforming Osmania University must therefore be matched with consistent attention to student welfare and campus safety to ensure a holistic upliftment of the academic environment.
