Manav Sharma, a TCS employee, was found dead at his Agra residence on February 24 in an apparent suicide. He recorded a video accusing his wife, Nikita Sharma, and her family of harassment, urging society to address men’s struggles.

His father filed a complaint, leading to an FIR under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) against Nikita and her family. The police are investigating the allegations while Nikita denies wrongdoing, claiming their relationship turned abusive due to Manav’s mental health issues.

“Think About Men”: A Plea for Justice

Manav Sharma’s emotional final video has sparked widespread attention. In the nearly seven-minute recording, he expressed deep anguish over the alleged harassment by his wife and her family. Tearfully addressing law enforcement, he stated, “Men need protection too,” warning of a future where men might be driven to extinction due to societal neglect.

His father, Narendra Sharma, a retired Air Force officer, revealed that Manav had been married for just over a year and allegedly faced threats from his wife regarding suicide. Nikita Sharma has refuted these claims, sharing WhatsApp messages where she alerted Manav’s sister about his suicidal tendencies.

A Troubled Marriage: Events Leading to the Tragedy

Manav’s marriage reportedly began deteriorating shortly after their wedding in January 2024. According to his family, he relocated with Nikita to Mumbai in an attempt to resolve their issues but allegedly faced continued harassment.

On February 23, he returned to Agra after leaving Nikita at her maternal home, where he was reportedly threatened by her family. The next morning, he was found hanging in his room. The police initially faced delays in registering a complaint due to Maha Shivratri duties but have since launched an investigation based on a WhatsApp complaint.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This tragic incident underscores the urgent need for society to address mental health challenges and gender-based issues comprehensively. While advocating for justice for victims of harassment, it is equally vital to ensure that men’s voices are heard and supported within the legal framework. Constructive dialogue around mental health and gender equity is essential to prevent such heartbreaking outcomes. Moreover, officials should emphasize the importance of mental health support systems for both men and women.
