In a horrific incident, a 32-year-old man, S Balamurugan, allegedly murdered his estranged wife Sirpriya at a women’s hostel in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, by stabbing her multiple times with a sickle over an alleged extramarital affair.

He then took a chilling selfie with her body and posted it on WhatsApp with a vengeful message.

The accused waited at the scene until police arrived, and he was arrested on the spot. Sirpriya had moved to Coimbatore from Tirunelveli with her children after separating from Balamurugan and was living in a private women’s hostel while working at a store.

Tamil Nadu Murder Case

Sirpriya and her children had relocated to her maternal home in Coimbatore to start afresh after splitting with Balamurugan. The accused suspected her of involvement with one of his relatives, which fueled tensions between them.

On the day of the murder, Balamurugan confronted Sirpriya at the hostel after a phone argument, carrying a sickle which he used to fatally stab her in the waiting area.

Other women fled the scene before informing police. The gruesome act shocked the local community and sparked renewed concerns over domestic violence and safety for women seeking shelter.

Police Investigation and Charges

Coimbatore police have registered an FIR charging Balamurugan with murder and related offences. He was arrested without resistance and is in custody. Police confirmed the accused’s motive rooted in personal jealousy and malice following the alleged affair.

Officers continue to investigate to ensure the complete facts and deliver justice. They urged people to promptly report threats or abuse in relationships to help prevent such tragedies.
