We appreciate and support our PM Narendra Modi who flagged off the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, thereby raising one of the most critical issues facing India – the lack of civic hygiene, the exercise seems to have descended into little more than a photo-op for many of the leaders.
Not only is the tokenism obvious when we see 4-5 officials clearing the same spot that already appears to be clean, it is ev en worse to find out that garbage is “created” for the sake of the camera.Can we ask for a little more sincerity from those who take up the challenge ?Also the government should focus on strengthening Municipal corporations with taxation powers and man power to bring about a clean India. Structural reforms of Corporations are the need of the hour to make India clean rather than photo ops.
