SpiceJet Asked To Pay Compensation Of Rs 60K For Losing Passenger’s Luggage

SpiceJet airline has been asked to pay compensation and penalty of Rs 60,000 for losing luggage of a Tripura Residents in one of its flights. Dr Atanu Ghosh’s one out of five registered ‘Check-in’ baggage was lost during his flight and could not be found.

Ghosh mentioned that the luggage contained goods such as video camera, digital camera, cosmetics and clothes, all worth Rs. 90,000. Airline didn’t want to pay the fine initially asked, so they approached the higher court.

Justice J M Malik asked the air career to pay the fine of Rs. 60,000, Rs. 10,000 more than the earlier fine. Dr Ghosh registered his complaint with SpiceJet officials in Kolkata and an FIR with police.

If a delayed baggage could not be traced for 21 days from the date of Property Irregularity Report , the same may be treated as lost. The compensation claim will be processed as per laid down procedures. All claims to be substantiated with itemized list of contents, description, age together with proof of purchase / ownership of all such items.

In case your baggage has been mishandled, we will make every effort to return it to you as soon as possible and deliver it to an address of your choice free of charge. A majority of the lost bags are re-united with their owners within 72 hours.

Hopefully this won’t happen but if it should please notify one of our Passenger Services Officers immediately and they’ll complete a Baggage Irregularity Report. We will endeavor to quickly locate and expedite it to you. If we can’t find it in seven (7) days we’ll provide lost baggage compensation in the amount of Rs 200 per Kg up to a maximum limit of Rs 3000.
