At a time when brutalities against Dalits have made a lot of news, another visible caste-based discrimination was witnessed in Madhya Pradesh. Sadly, even in death, they had to face discrimination. A Dalit woman aged 28 who had passed away in Gujarat was brought back to her ancestral town in Madhya Pradesh to perform the last rites. Despite many pleas from the family, the dominant castes of the village denied access to the burial ground and any field. Tragically, the last rites were performed in front of their own house even as the whole village watched.

Sangeeta, 28, who had passed away in Gujarat, had to face the above-mentioned ordeal. The district collector taking cognisance of the issue has directed a relief of Rs 10,000. The collector has also issued orders to ensure free and non-discriminatory use of the fields meant for performing the last rites. The pleas and cries of the family went to deaf ears of people plagued by casteist mindset.

The Logical Indian appeals to the people of our country to stand up against caste discrimination and the best way to do that is to stand together and raise your voice against medieval mindsets of few individuals who continue to cause disgrace to our country and its beloved people
