The 30-year-old woman admitted in the gynaecology ward underwent labour on Saturday morning when the hospital staff were rushing from one ward to another to evacuate patients in the emergency ward, reported The Indian Express.

The mother was later moved to the operation theatre at Dr Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences of the institute and around 9:30 pm the team of doctors delivered a baby girl. The mother and child are doing well as per the doctors.

One of the doctors who helped deliver the baby said that attending a patient is their duty, and they cannot ignore it under any circumstance. He further said that the life of this patient and her child was more important than anything.

Considered to be the biggest fire in the history of AIIMS, it was brought in control by 34 fire engines on Saturday. The fire which started at around 5 pm from the Microbiology department forced the emergency lab to be shut temporarily. However, the department of lab medicine worked on full strength to make sure patients do not suffer.
