Amidst the ongoing controversy over the Kathua and Unnao gang rape cases, another rape was reported from Bihar. A six-year-old girl was reportedly raped by her neighbour on Tuesday evening. The incident was reported in Kargahar area of Bihar’s Rohtas. The accused Meraz Miyan (27) was arrested after a few hours of the incident and the child was rescued. The accused has reportedly confessed the crime. An FIR has been filed against him based on the complaint received from the survivor’s uncle.

The survivor was taken to Kargahar primary health centre first and then taken to Sasaram Sadar Hospital in Bihar for better treatment. According to a report by The Telegraph, the child had suffered serious injuries in her private parts and was bleeding.

“The girl’s private parts have severely been damaged and she had to endure at least half a dozen stitches. Her condition is stable,” the Station House Officer of Kargahar police station, Dayanand Sharma, said to The Telegraph quoting a doctor attending to the girl. “We want the accused to be awarded death sentence by the court for committing the heinous crime,” he added.

The police have sent her blood-stained clothes to the state forensic science laboratory for further investigation.

The incident

The accused took the 6-year-old to a hut when she was playing outside her residence. This was 100 meters away from the child’s residence.

“On hearing loud cries of a child, the girl’s uncle Baban Singh came out of his home and rushed towards the hut where he spotted the accused coming out. He also found his niece lying in a pool of blood inside the hut,” the SHO told The Times of India. “Soon the minor girl’s family members informed the police and Meraz was arrested from the village,” he added.

The accused was working as a tailor in the village, and the girl’s parents are daily wage workers.

Villager’s protest

Expressing their solidarity with the victim, shop owners in Kargahar market remained shut and the villagers blocked the Sasaram-Buxar state highway for at least four hours on Wednesday. The villagers also protested before the police station demanding justice for the girl and her family members.
