The Supreme Court has directed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to submit a concrete plan by Friday for declaring pending Class XII improvement examination results, expressing serious concern over the impact of delays on students’ higher education prospects.
Hearing petitions from affected students, a bench of the apex court underscored that thousands of candidates in India and abroad, particularly those applying to universities in West Asian countries, risk losing admission opportunities because their results remain unavailable.
The court refused CBSE’s request for additional time and stressed that administrative delays should not come at the cost of students’ academic futures. It also took note of complaints from candidates whose records display the status “RL” (Result Later) without any clear explanation, directing that their representations be addressed promptly.
While CBSE is yet to publicly outline its roadmap, the latest development places the board under pressure to provide a definitive timeline and clarity for affected students.
Court Flags Student Hardship
The Supreme Court’s observations reflect growing anxiety among students and parents who have been waiting for improvement examination results needed for university admissions, scholarships and eligibility requirements.
