After The Win Over Kenya, Sunil Chhetri Thanks Supporters For Responding To His Call

After Sunil Chhetri’s request to fans to come and watch India’s Blue Tigers playing with Kenya on June 4 in Mumbai, fans responded by completely filling up the stadium. And the fans were not disappointed too. On what was Sunil Chhetri’s, the captain of the Indian Football Team, 100th International match, he scored two goals and India defeated Kenya by 3 goals to nill.

Sunil Chhetri had an unusual request for his fans on June 2. He requested them to go to the stadium every time and watch India’s Blue Tigers play.

After the match ended, overwhelmed by the response, Chhetri tweeted that “We promise you that if that’s the kind of support we get every time we play for the country, we will give our lives on the pitch. India, this night was special because we were in this together. Those in the stands shouting, and the ones at home cheering – thank you!” Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, Harsha Bhogle congratulated their victory.

In the first match of the Intercontinental Cup on June 1, the Indian football team, ‘Blue Tigers’ thrashed a rather depleted Chinese Taipei team by 5-0 in front of a nearly empty Mumbai Football Arena.

What Chhetri asked for?

In an emotional message, the Indian skipper pleaded with the football fans to turn up for their matches. Admitting that the level of Indian football is not same as European clubs, Chhetri said that his team would try their best to make it worth their time. His message was retweeted by many, and Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli also came out in its support.

“To all of you who are fans of big European clubs and support European clubs with so much passion and sometimes you guys think that the level is not the same, so why do you waste your time? Agreed, the level is not the same, not even close but with our desire and determination, we will try our best to make your time worth,” Chhetri said.

“To all of you, who have lost hope or don’t have any hope in Indian football, we request you to come and watch us in the stadium,” the skipper added. “I mean it’s not fun to criticise and abuse on the internet. Come to the stadium, do it on our face, scream at us, shout at us, abuse us, who knows one day we might change you guys, you might start cheering for us. You guys have no idea how important you guys are and how important your support is,” he added.

“I request you all to please come …talk about the game, go back home, have discussions, make banners. Please get involved, this is an important time and juncture in Indian football and football in India needs you guys.”

The Logical Indian Take

The Logical Indian community appreciates the supporters who came out in huge number to support the Indian football team. It was a rare moment for the Indian football team to see a stadium full of supporters. Hopefully, the supports will keep pouring in for the team and they will reach a new height.
