Cricket is a gentleman’s game. However, in the modern era, very few cricketers in the world can be deemed as an honest and down-to-earth gentleman. If you ask an Indian cricket fan “Who has been the most gentleman-ly figure in Indian Cricket over the last 25 years?”, most are likely to say Rahul Dravid.

“The Wall of India” as they fondly called him, was the probably the most dependable batsman in a star-studded Indian team of the 90’s boasting the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman. Widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time, Dravid has been a phenomenon down the years.

But what is terrific is his personality. Despite all the fame and media spotlights that he has faced down the years, he has continued to be humble and respectful to all. He has also held himself in high regards among the fans of the game and his recent action has only emboldened the personality that he is.

Having been offered the honorary degree by Bangalore University, Dravid declined the offer claiming that he would like to earn a doctorate somewhere down the line by doing some research in sport. His action has brought widespread applause among the fans of the game and this action just goes to show what a gentleman Dravid is.

A personality such as his is perhaps one in a million and with the increasing fame and wealth that the cricketers are getting these days, Rahul Dravid is a perfect example for a young cricketer to model his game and more importantly his personality on.
