Indian Women’s Kabaddi Team Clinches Gold

The Indian women’s kabaddi team clinches the first gold medal at the 5th Asian Beach Games, winning the title for a record fifth time in succession. It is the fifth straight gold in the event since 2008, as they beat Thailand 41-31 in a hard-fought summit clash at Bien Dong Park. The defeat is also the fifth straight one for Thailand against India, reported PTI.

Although, Indian men’s beach kabaddi team lost to Pakistan 28-30 in a close competition to settle for a silver. India had won gold in men’s beach kabaddi in 2008 and 2010 in biennial games. Pakistan finally made it to the podium after achieving silver medals in the event at each of the previous four Asian Beach Games.


Amisha Tokas won a silver in women’s 70kg category Kurash (A form of wrestling originated in Uzbekistan) after Nguyen Thai Lan of Vietnam succeeded in the final. Manoj Kumar Majumdar won a bronze in beach bodybuilding up to 158 cm category. India has achieved 15th spot in the medal table headed by host Vietnam (25 gold, 22 silver, 27 bronze) and has won six medals (1 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze).
